BODY-FOCUSED THERAPY Cochrane & Calgary

BODY-FOCUSED THERAPY

What is body-focused therapy?

The body is an important part of us but often ignored as we reside in the realms of the thinking mind. The mind constitutes only half of us. When we explore the body, another world will begin to open, and we become more whole. This way of working is holistic as it goes deeper than the thinking mind, accessing the sub- and unconscious, where healing may begin to take place.

We will work with the sensations of the body and the nervous system. Every cell has intelligence and memory. The body has a felt sense, a deep knowing and wisdom, and we will learn to tap into this.

This can be done in different ways:

Somatic Experiencing

Psychological Acupuncture and More

We can tap into the body where we have pain, tension, or sensation. The body may give us imagery, emotion, a memory, or a sense of something. By breathing into or placing our attention on specific areas, we bring awareness to the energy held there, which can then begin to flow and process through the body and be liberated.

Benefits of working with the body

  1. Holistic healing
  2. Connecting the body and mind, and becoming a more whole person
  3. Accessing the wisdom, knowledge, emotion, and memory of the body
  4. Becoming more grounded, embodied, and effective in everyday life

It is through the body that we find our grounding and relaxation. By learning to live more fully in the body, we become embodied; we find our home and we become more effective in the world.
