Body-Focused Therapy and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)

What is body-focused therapy?

The body is an important part of us but often ignored as we reside in the realms of the thinking
mind. The mind constitutes only half of us. When we explore the body, another world will begin
to open, and we become more whole.

Every cell has intelligence and memory. The body has a felt sense, a deep knowing and wisdom, and we will learn to tap into this. This way of working is holistic as it goes deeper than the thinking mind, accessing the sub- and unconscious, where healing may begin to take place.

Benefits of working with the body:

Advantages of Engaging with the Body:

  • Achieving holistic wellness
  • Fostering a deeper connection between the body and mind, leading to a more integrated self
  • Tapping into the body’s reservoir of wisdom, understanding, feelings, and memories
  • Enhancing presence, embodiment, and proficiency in daily activities

Our bodies serve as the foundation for our sense of stability and calmness. Embracing a life that is more attuned to our bodily experiences not only grounds us but also empowers us to find our center. This, in turn, amplifies our efficacy in navigating the world.

Somatic Experiencing

With Somatic Experiencing, we will work with the sensations of the body and the nervous system. We will begin to track sensations and allow energy to flow through the body and be reintegrated instead of being stuck. Part of this work is the restoration of protective responses that got frozen and locked in the body during a traumatic experience. Touch therapy forms part of Somatic Experiencing and this involves a light touch on, for example, the joints and diaphragms of the body, where there may be bound up trauma energy. This is a very creative and deep way of working that helps your nervous system return to a healthy way of functioning.

Touch Therapy

A deeper aspect of Somatic Experiencing is touch therapy. This involves the therapist putting a hand on certain parts of the body while you lie on a massage table. This is a gentle touch without any manipulation of the body. Then, sensations are followed as they process through the body.
Touch therapy can repair attachment challenges, help you get an accurate sense of what is going on in the body, create a sense of safety and connection, improve boundaries, and increase the ability to self-regulate and further process trauma.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)

ART is a fast way of working that helps process trauma. This is a specific protocol involving eye movements that process negative emotions, sensations and other symptoms. As it is said in ART, you will retain the memory of the experience but you will lose the negative charge. You will be able to go back to your life!

Rapid Relief, Profound Results: The ART Advantage

  • Immediate Change: Clients often experience significant relief that can be obtained in as little as one session.
  • Imagery: Engage with empowering visualizations to facilitate healing.
  • Elimination of Triggers: Quickly diminish the impact of trauma, reducing or removing triggers.
  • Evidence-Based: Grounded in scientific research and proven techniques.
  • Personalized Healing: You’re in control of your healing journey. ART is tailored to fit your unique experiences and comfort level, providing a safe, empowering environment for recovery.

Working with Somatic Experiencing (SE) as well as ART, you don’t have to talk a lot about your experience. ART is more image-focused, and with SE, we can work on a trauma without talking or even remembering the trauma. You are in total control of the therapy whether we do Somatic Experiencing, ART, or anything else. These approaches are a safe and contained way of working with trauma.

This can be done in different ways:

Somatic Experiencing

Part of this work is the restoration of protective responses that got frozen and locked in the body during a traumatic experience. Psychological Acupuncture and More

We can tap into the body where we have pain, tension, or sensation. The body may give us imagery, emotion, a memory, or a sense of something. By breathing into or placing our attention on specific areas, we bring awareness to the energy held there, which can then begin to flow and process through the body and be liberated.

Benefits of working with the body

  1. Holistic healing
  2. Connecting the body and mind, and becoming a more whole person
  3. Accessing the wisdom, knowledge, emotion, and memory of the body
  4. Becoming more grounded, embodied, and effective in everyday life

It is through the body that we find our grounding and relaxation. By learning to live more fully in the body, we become embodied; we find our home and we become more effective in the world.
