
Working with the inner child is a way to access the unconscious self. The inner child is our innermost, vulnerable self. It is the creative spark of life. But the inner child also carries our hurt. It is body based and expresses through emotions, sensations, and illness.
Conceptualizing our emotions and traumatic memories as the inner child is a unique way to get to know ourselves and find healing. It provides an opportunity to deeply connect with ourselves. We learn to talk to our inner child, meaningfully engage, and in this way bring to the surface old wounds and begin to heal them. We learn to be a loving mother and father for ourselves and give ourselves the direction, guidance, teaching, and love that we need.
